Picnic Basket Makeover

Updated: May 2, 2020

So, I bought a picnic basket. Like a cool, old fashioned one with real silverware that was rusting away in someone’s attic until I took a $20.00 bill and rescued it.

I excitedly stuck it in my trunk and hauled it home and put it upstairs ready to give it a much- needed makeover. Now I look at it and have come to the realization that I have no idea how to shine silver. Some of the beautifully gold emblazoned, porcelain dishes don’t technically fit so they may not have been part of the original picnic basket but they’re still pretty. Also, one handle is missing, making carrying the picnic basket to an actual picnic will be somewhat problematic and I’m curious as to how the other handle that is still there is really holding up, you know? So, it’s been being carried by the bottom… And yeah, I never took that underwater basket weaving class so that’ll be a new skill too.

I have finally had the time to write this during this lovely pandemic, so the good news is I bet I can find a YouTube video on underwater basket weaving and silver shining. However, no craft stores are open yet and, in my state, they’re considering re-opening them, but honestly… as the virus is still ‘active’ and silver polish isn’t like, you know, toilet paper, I won’t be venturing out any time soon to obtain that.

(Do I get brownie points for the longest sentence with the most commas ever?)

The irony… having the time but not the materials. Maybe I can order supplies online. Yeah, I’ll probably do that.

Oh, and this baby came with some pastry tins as well! Totally separate but was included in the price ‘cause these people wanted to move ASAP, so they threw stuff in the basket.

Free stuff is dangerous for me because I always say ‘yes.’ I’m planning on moving soon and when I go through everything, I’ll be like… why do I have all this ‘everything’? Moving puts your life into perspective. The good news? I can fit a lot more than plates and silverware into this picnic basket! Like wine bottles. Yes, plural.
